One Year Ministry Update from Greenwood Christian Church

Greenwood Christian Church (GCC) in Greenwood, Indiana, will soon be celebrating the one year anniversary of their expansion and renovation project, designed and built by Aspen Group.  The project added a 1300 seat Worship Center, Commons area with café, and also included renovation of several other spaces.

It was exciting to hear from Pastor Matt Giebler and Pastor David Strange as they shared what has been happening with the church’s ministry over the past year.

"We moved to our current location 10 years ago with the intention to connect with the surrounding community," shared Pastor Matt Giebler,

“but just in the last year we feel that GCC has really started to have a more powerful impact on our neighbors.”

One thing they attribute the growth and connection to is the recent building project.  The addition of the new Worship Center has changed the look of the building.  “It is obvious to the community that something is different,” Pastor David Strange said, “we feel like the outside of the building matches the ministry that is happening inside.”

On the inside, the Worship Center and Commons area have proven to align well with the culture and ministry of the church:

  • The worship style and the music now “meshes” better with the look and feel of the new worship center.
  •  When people enter the building at the Commons entrance, they can see immediately that GCC is a church that values relationships.
  • It used to be that once a service ended, people either made their way to a Sunday school class or headed for the door.  Now people are all over the Commons area in groups, talking and spending time together.
  • The Coffee Shop opened in February (2010) and has been a big hit. It has not only provided another way to connect, but has also brought new volunteer workers who are excited about the coffee ministry.

Aspen Group rejoices in the ministry growth that GCC has experienced.  It is a privilege to witness how their strategically planned facility has been a ministry tool as they seek to reach the community in Greenwood, IN with the love of Jesus.
